	Bayer’s Novel Anticoagulant Rivaroxaban – Effectual Thromboembolic Prophylaxis with a Tablet Xarelto® (rivaroxaban) – the first oral, direct factor Xa inhibitor for the prevention of venous blood clots in patients undergoing elective (planned) hip or knee replacement surgery was launched locally in February 2009.Xarelto® has demonstrated its significant clinical potential in a ground-breaking study program: RECORD 1, 2, 3 & 4.Xarelto® received a very positive opinion from the EU’s CHMP after the committee reviewed data from the extensive RECORD clinical program that included four Phase III trials involving over 12, 000 patients undergoing knee or hip replacement. Results demonstrated the superior efficacy of Xarelto in head to head comparisons with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) – enoxaparin. In all trials Xarelto® and LMWH had comparable safety profiles including similar low rates of major bleeding.

AMON’s 3^rd  International Orthopaedic Conference will take place on Thursday 11^th – and Friday 12^th  October, 2012, at the Dolmen Resort Hotel in Qawra.

It is expected that the International Conference will draw about 200-300 orthopaedic nurses, theatre nurses, geriatric nurses, A&E nurses Paediatric nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists and supporters of orthopaedic nursing.

 The 2009 International Orthopaedic Conference was a great success with about 165 participants,  from 16 different countries including England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Turkey, Greece and Sweden.   During the 2012 Conference we are planning to attract even more participants from a number of new countries.
